I love to incorporate personally meaningful non-glass inclusions in the pieces. My kids pick up these unusual ear-shaped fossils along the shore of Lake Whitney. Because of my hearing loss, working one or two into each panel feels like I am putting a little bit of myself into the work.
My grandmother taught me so much about creating a gracious home and home life. I have her Desert Rose China and accidentally broke one of the saucers recently. After the first quick pang of loss it evoked, I realized I could incorporate a small shard in this work and honor her memory in a lasting way.
Another detail of the “gem” portion of one of the panels.
