Color, Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition, Red Hook, New York, 2012, polyester organza and other media
The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition is an artist-run 501c non-profit corporation. They have numerous calls for art throughout the year, giving many, many artists the opportunity to exhibit in New York. Their facility, for which you see the front entrance here, is amazing. It’s an old warehouse – I believe pre-Civil War era. It has withstood floods, wars, political upheaval, you name it. It’s located on the waterfront in Red Hook and you can look out over the water and see the Statue of Liberty. I’ve participated in a couple of shows there. This one was called “Color” and I proposed to do installation work using the windsock objects you’ve seen on this website in several different configurations. In this picture you see that we suspended a garland of the red and white ones to serve as a colorful gateway to the show.
